It is an independent system that provides power to a specific geographic area or community that is not connected to the distribution grid of the utility. In the case of Spectrum, our Microgrid solution is the combination of Solar + Storage + Genset, or any two combinations of each.
A Microgrid system is only applicable to areas where there is no connection to either a transmission or distribution grid. It may also be useful in cases where there is very frequent power interruption.
No. The price of the distribution grid will always be cheaper. The Microgrid, or Off-grid system as others may call it, will have a higher maintenance cost due to battery replacement and genset utilization.
